Trade 3 | Highland Explorer Tours
The Highlands are somewhere just as remarkable overcast as they are clear and sunny, if not more so on days where the sky falls so low the sharp ends of the landscape begin to carve through the clouds, providing an atmosphere deserving of the mythology surrounding the land.
The previous morning I had landed in an unfamiliar city and checked into a hostel surrounded by travellers and strange looking currency. For my first major trade it had all the hallmarks of my previous travels to new foreign countries but I had only ventured a few hours north to Edinburgh, Scotland. In the morning I clambered onto my new base for a long weekend away with Highland Explorer Tours.
Having explored the Isle of Skye the previous year, I thought it was a known quantity. I was quickly proven wrong the moment our guide, Tony, switched on his microphone and for the next three days proceeded to recount the interwoven history and legends of fairies, giants and clansmen while navigating the bus through the country's weaving terrain. Even off the record - microphone switched off - Tony's knowledge and passion for his country never let up. Between reaching for the camera I got to sit at the front of the bus and simply listen to another of hopefully many I will encounter who clearly love what they do.
